Benefits of small class size

1. More one to one Student – Teacher Interaction

Students in small groups exercise a more personal relationship with the teacher with more teacher time per student. Less number of students in a class allows for better availability of teaching aids, and other learning resources for each child, leading to first hand learning.

2. Better use of teaching aids

Less number of students in a class allows for better availability of teaching aids, and other learning resources for each child, leading to first hand learning. A small class size will allow each child to participate in the class activities and experience learning first-hand, resulting in better learning.

3. Every child participates

A small class size will allow each child to participate in the class activities and experience learning first-hand, resulting in better learning.

4.  Better class discipline

Having less number of students in a class leads to increased student-teacher interaction allowing for the students to stay on task more consistently. The teacher can get to know the individual students better, which allows her to better identify areas where the student needs help and plan for their growth.

5. Increased teacher feedback

In a small classroom the teacher can provide more detailed feedback specific to each child. This is especially important in case of weak students.

6. Encourages independence in the learner

Students in small groups exercise a more personal relationship with the teacher with more teacher time per student.

7. Better learning & growth

The teacher can get to know the individual students better, which allows her to better identify areas where the student needs help and plan for their growth.

Class size: Is the number of children who study together in a classroom. International standards prescribe a maximum class size of 25 students in the nursery and primary classes as optimum.

Student-teacher ratio: Is the total student strength of the school divided by the total teachers in the school, including all kinds of part-time, sports and other teachers. This may not be the same as the class size.

VMWC has 20 to 25 students per class in Grades Nursery to Fifth; 30 to 35 students per class in Grades VI to XII
