Kanika Kapoor: A proud Modernite

Indian-British singer, Kanika Kapoor, singer of super hit songs ‘Jugni Ji’ & ‘Baby Doll’, visited her Alma Mater on Monday, 21 April, 2014, to once again be part of the school assembly and interact with all the students.

Kanika started off by saying that she is a ‘proud Modernite’ and thanked the school for pushing her towards the singing career. An alumnus of Vidyatree Modern World College (Previously The Modern School), Aliganj, Lucknow, she finished her class 12th from The Modern School in 1998.

She added that she had been a student of music right from childhood, but its at The Modern School she got the encouragement and push to take up singing prefossionally, when she got a boost to her singing skills (she trained under yesteryears Music Director H. Vasant, at The Modern School), and the opportunity to win numerous inter-school competitions.

All the students, right from Grade 1 to 12, knew of her superhit song, ‘Baby Doll’, and were excited to have Kanika in their midst. Kanika was overwhelmed with the affection showered on her, and she signed off by saying that there were more songs to come.

The school is proud of her and wishes her the best of success and fame.

Community Service by Grade 1

ACTION is the last stage of the inquiry cycle where students apply, what they have learnt, to do community service, to the real world around them. It helps children learn with a real world context and not just bookish knowledge.

Here students of Grade 1 take action under the theme ‘Sharing the planet’ and Line of Inquiry: Our responsibility for the well being of other living things.

Grand Bal Mela 2013 in aid of cancer patients

It was a beautiful day on Sunday, 10 Nov, when The Modern School, Sector E, Aliganj, organized the Grand Bal Mela – a charity fundraise in aid of cancer patients – which soon became a very successful fun filled event with over 6000 parents, kids and grandparents visiting.

The Bal Mela had over 60 food and games stalls and even a few stalls selling wares to ladies. Over half of those stalls were put up by the students of The Modern School, learning the very important attributes of cooperation, teamwork, entrepreneurship, leadership and most importantly caring, because every rupee profit that they were making would be donated in aid of cancer patients.

The major highlights of the event were: art and craft exhibition cum sale by students of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (Grades Nur to 5), street magic by students of the school, Dholakpur land – a big hit among the young, all the food prepared by students themselves following every rule of hygiene, elephant, camel and horse rides, three raffle draws during the day and of course the many competitions for kids and their parents: Ms. Beautiful Hair, Baby Show, Fancy Dress & Art competition.

Overall it was an overwhelming experience and a major learning opportunity for all students, who were immediately rewarded, at the end of the Bal Mela, by an impromptu freestyle dance party to the tunes of the DJ.
